Player Selection Process
Potential Kansas Shrine Bowl All-Star football players are nominated by their high school coach during October & November each year. Only seniors who have played in at least 6 games in the senior year and nominated by their own coach may be considered for selection to be in the game the next summer. Nominations are accumulated by the Kansas Shrine Bowl office and mailed to all daily newspapers in Kansas, selected wide-area weeklies, and Television & radio sports departments for balloting on the top 22 players in the state. The ballots are counted by the Kansas Shrine Bowl office and the top 22 east and the top 22 west vote getters are selected. Ties are broken and final selections are made by a committee consisting of the prep sports writers from the Topeka Capitol Journal, Wichita Eagle, Hutchinson News, Salina Journal, and Kansas Sports Magazine. The Shrine Bowl coaches for the next Kansas Shrine Bowl game are then allowed to round out the selected squads by adding two choices each including a kicking specialist for each squad. The head coaches also select needed replacement players from the list of nominees. High school coaches may use the form on the link below to nominate players.
