Parade Formation Map

2011 HAYS, KANSAS, SHRINE BOWL PARADE & FORMATION INFORMATION
The formation areas are the City Streets north of 17th & Main in Hays.  See formation map. The general flow of the parade is south on Main from 17th street to 4th street. The return route is west on 4th to Ash and north on Ash to the original parade formation area. The return route will not be blocked and traffic laws and signs must be observed.

  • Parade order of Temples based on traditional rotation:, Abdallah, Isis, Arab, Midian, and Mirza. Temple units should remain in their respective formation areas until advanced on instructions from the overall Parade Marshal.
  • Arab & Mirza Shrine Units should enter the formation area from Fort Street.  Abdallah & Midian Shrine Units should enter the formation area from Oak Street.
  • Player trucks, dignitary cars, cheerleaders and Isis Shrine Units should enter the area on Main, proceeding south on Main from 20th Street to the area between 20th & 17th along the west curb lane and west traffic lane.
  • After Main Street is closed at 9:00 a.m. the Kansas Masonic Band Busses will approach 17th and main from the east on 17th, stopping briefly at Main to allow the band to disembark and enter Main north of 17th on foot.
  • Shrine Bowl Past President, Mark Peterson, and Shrine Bowl Executive Director, Dave Mize, will act as overall parade marshals and each Temple’s parade marshal or his designee will work the formation of their own Temple.
  • The public restrooms or portable restrooms will be available in the formation area.
  • Civic volunteers will be assistants at the line-up to work the entrances and direct parade entries in the correct formation areas.
  • The formation time is 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Units forming on residential or business streets should respect the residents and keep one lane open at all times through the block for their passage, and maneuvering of other units..
  • The parade will start at 10:00 a.m. Again, Temple units should remain in their respective formation area until advanced on instructions from the overall Parade Marshal.
  • Pre-parade meeting of parade marshals and other interested parties at 8:00 a.m. near the intersection of 17th and Main.
  • Parade formation area street barricades should be placed in position by 8:30 a.m.

Parade Formation Volunteers
The task of the parade area volunteers is to stop non-parade traffic (except street residents and patrons going to businesses in the formation area) from entering the formation area and direct traffic around the formation area. They also are to direct parade entries into the formation area at the most convenient entry near their respective line-up block. One to four Parade Formation Volunteers are to be stationed (by 8:15 a.m.) at each of the following intersections:

  • Main Street, northbound lanes at 17th
  • Main Street, southbound lanes at 20th
  • Fort at 19th eastbound
  • Fort at 18th eastbound
  • Oak at 19th westbound
  • Oak at 18th westbound

Note: Formation Area Volunteers may abandon their stations after the Parade starts at 10:00 a.m.
