WHAT - The Kansas Shrine Bowl is a 501 C 3 non-profit charity that produces annual events and related activities featuring talented high school students and recently graduated high school seniors. The flagship event, since 1974, has been the East/West All-Star Football Game. Through 2009 the WEST leads the series with 22 wins, the EAST has 13 wins, and there has been one tie. The game is surrounded by a weekend of festivities featuring bands, banquets, Shrine parade units, precision parachutists, hot air balloons, tailgating, and other family fun. Other planned game day activities include: Shriners Hospitals for Children Free Screening Clinic; 2Mile Run for Charity; Cross Country All-Star Race; Arts & Craft Fair; Poker Run For Charity; All-State Marching Band; Kids Fair; Cheer Clinic; and High School Football Combine/Clinic.
WHERE - Various locations around the State with facilities to match the events and activities. Past host cites include Lawrence, Manhattan, Wichita, Topeka, Hays, Emporia, Pittsburg The pro-style, pre-game football camp is in Emporia for the EAST Squad, while the WEST squad gets ready in Salina. The Band Camp, Cheer Camp, Cross Country Camp and other scheduled Shrine Bowl activities and events are held in the host city.
WHY - The Shrine Bowl goals are three fold. (1) To bring state and national attention to Kansas High School Students & Athletes. (2) To produce fun filled, family oriented, events of which the entire state of Kansas can be proud. (3) To generate information about, and funds for, Shriners Hospitals for Children.
WHEN - Most events and activities are held the last Saturday in July with the Shrine Bowl Banquet held the Friday before the last Saturday.
AUDIENCE - The Shrine Bowl banquet will serve 1,200 persons, the parade will entertain four to ten thousand and the football game will attract 10,000 to 15,000. Additionally, the football game is broadcast on the Shrine Bowl radio network consisting of 10 to 20 stations across Kansas, and is televised our statewide TV network consisting of the Cox Communications System and all PBS Stations in Kansas.
HISTORY OF SUCCESS - The Kansas Shrine Bowl is one the largest and most successful high school all-star games in the nation. All proceeds are contributed to Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Shrine Bowl has contributed to the hospitals every year since 1974 and has now produced over two and a half million dollars for the charity.
